Why are my worms in the bottom tray of my worm farm?

  Auckland

Q.

Hi, I have one of your Tui Worm Farms. Some of the worms are ending up in the bottom tray. Do you know why this is? Also in the bottom tray the liquid is more like mud and I use the tap but am not sure what to do with the mud left in the tray. Can you please help? Thanks, Rach.

Hi Rachael

The worms are heading to the bottom to get cool, is the worm farm in a sunny position? If it is, move it to a less sunny position.

Add some bedding to the top tray, either a layer of damp newspaper, cardboard or a worm blanket. If the worm farm food is dry a sprinkling of water can also be added.

Remove the worm castings in the base and add to your compost or the garden. Worm juice should be diluted at a ratio of 1:10 parts water.

Thanks, Tui Team.
