Q.
Hi, why are my feijoa fruit so small and falling off the tree. This season they seem to have started falling prematurely and are not fully ripe or a very big size. What could have caused this to happen?

Hi Lee-anne, the fruit are likely falling prematurely due to lack of water through the summer months, and now the tree is receiving deluges of water from all of the wet weather they are dropping. Hopefully the tree will hold on to the later developing fruit so that it reaches a good size with improved flavour. Feijoas have a very fibrous root system close to the surface, consistent watering through summer, mulching and feeding with Tui Citrus food should help improve fruiting. Feed in early spring as the tree starts to flower. Lianne
