Which fertiliser should I use for lavender and hibiscus?

  Auckland
  December

Q.

Hi Tui, which fertiliser should I use for lavender and hibiscus please?

John gibson

A.

Hi John, the best fertiliser to use for lavender is an all purpose controlled release such as Tui Enrich Fruit, Citrus, Tree & Shrub fertiliser or a general garden fertiliser such as Tui General Garden Fertiliser. They don't require a fertiliser too rich in nitrogen, but do benefit from potassium (potash) for flowering in summer. Lavender don't need heavy fertiliser applications, a light annual application of lime and an application of fertiliser in spring as well as compost added to replenish the soil should see them through the season.

Hibiscus will benefit from an all purpose fertiliser that is low in phosphorus but rich in potassium for flowering. Apply an all purpose controlled release fertiliser such as Tui Enrich Fruit, Tree, Shrub and Citrus fertiliser, or Tui Novatec Premium slow release fertiliser. Apply fertiliser in early spring, again mid summer and autumn. Little and often is better for hibiscus. The Tui Team.
