What is the best way to deal with a weed (Dock) that is growing right beside the root of a climbing rose

Hi Rita, suggest you cut the leaves off the dock, right back to just above ground level. Then paint weed spray onto the stalks and new leaves as and when they appear, being careful not to get anything on the rose stems, this will kill the dock and save the rose.
