Q.
Hi, does leaving grass cuttings on lawns promote growth? Is it a good idea or bad? Thanks.

Hi Rex, by adding organic matter back into your lawn your are improving the soil structure and adding organic matter back into the soil, the more organic matter in the soil, the better the water retention, it also improves fertiliser uptake. If you regularly mow your lawn and cut it on a high setting removing the top third of the lawn, then it is a good idea to leave the clippings on the lawn after mowing. If you infrequently cut lawns and let them get long before mowing and not catch the clippings, it is likely to smother the grass and cause it to yellow, rot and cause the spread of disease.
