Hi, can you tell me if Tui General Garden fertiliser is soluble, slow release or a controlled release fertiliser? Thanks.

Hi Sally, Tui General Garden fertiliser is a blend of straight fertilisers, so neither soluble, slow release or controlled release. Blended fertilisers needs to be mixed into the soil to start working and releasing nutrients to plants, depending upon the type of soil and the amount of organic matter in the soil, this can take 7 days or more to start working, the nutrients feed plants for up to 8 weeks. A soluble fertiliser is a powder that is mixed with water and applied to plants, this is the most instant way to feed plants as the nutrients dissolve in water and are in a form that plants can easily absorb, a blended fertiliser will not dissolve in water, soluble fertilisers can be applied weekly, fortnightly or monthly, whatever the pack instructions recommend. A slow release fertiliser is a prill that contains nutrients bound together, usually with zeolite or clay, that breaks down in the soil when water is applied, each prill is a complete unit of NPK, so targeted plant feeding and will feed for up to 12 weeks. A controlled release fertiliser is a prill that contains fertiliser and is coated with a semi permeable membrane, soil moisture (water) moves into the prill and fertiliser moves out into the soil, the benefit of this is that nutrients are released when plants are actively growing and can feed plants from 6 to 12 months.
