Hi Tui, I have read recently that tomatoes should/can be planted very deeply - even up to the top lateral leaves. If this is so, I assume that all the lateral stems be removed before planting?

Hi Leith
Tomatoes can be planted deeply as they have adventitious roots that form from the stem. Plant as deeply as you can leaving at least two nodes of leaves at the top and the growing tip. Remove the leaves and laterals that are below this before planting, do this with a knife or secateurs. By using the deep planting method you will get a stronger root system.
Thanks, Tui Team
