Q.
Hi, I have bought a mulberry tree for the first time and will be planting it shortly. Do you any tips for success with this tree please? Thanks, Margaret.

Good on you for buying such a wonderful berry tree. Choose a sunny area, and blend plenty of compost and sheep pellets into the soil. Soak your tree in a bucket of Seasol seaweed based plant tonic to help prevent transplant shock. Dig a hole approximately twice the depth and width of the root ball of your plant and partly fill with Tui Garden Mix. Place the tree in the hole, and fill in with Tui Garden Mix, ensuring the tree is no deeper than it was in the container or bag. Water your tree after planting.
Each spring fertilise with fruit fertiliser - we suggest Tui NovaTec Citrus & Fruit Tree fertiliser. It will take a few seasons before it starts to fruit reliably, however it’s well worth the wait. Not a lot of pruning is required, other than to maintain a good shape. Good luck!
