Can lawn clippings be composted after fertilising the lawn?

Q.

Hi, we have just put lawn fertiliser on the lawn which contains moss killer, can we put lawn clippings from first couple mows into compost bin? Thanks.

Jill

A.

Hi Jill, it is safe to put lawn clippings from lawns fertilised with lawn fertiliser that contains moss killer, which is sulphate of iron. The only time you wouldn't use the lawn clippings for composting is if you have used a weed and feed product or a fertiliser that contains a broadleaf weed control product, such as Tui LawnForce Weedkill slow release fertiliser.
