Can I still eat my spring onions once they go to seed?

  Bay of Plenty
  January

Q.

Hi Tui, my spring onions have got away on me, I was wondering if I can use the onion like bulbs they’ve grown into? Thank you

Robyn Fowler

A.

Hi Robyn, yes, you can still eat spring onions once they go to seed, use them as you would an onion or spring onion. Snip the foliage back of those that have gone to seed to remove the flower, this will stop all of the plants energies going into the flower. Once harvested "bolted" spring onions will not keep in the fridge for very long so need using straight away. The Tui Team.
